When the woman and several other local women opposed this, the accused further misbehaved with them and also allegedly tore their clothes. Irked over the incident, local residents supported by BJP workers reached the Olidih police station and lodged a complaint.

As the protesters mounted pressure to arrest the culprit, police lathicharged them. Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha general secretary of Olidih Deepak Tiwary and Gaurav Rai were injured in the incident.

Leading the protestors, district BJP president Gunjan Yadav alleged that the police instead of acting against the culprits responsible for harassing a woman in broad daylight, had lathi-charged BJP workers for supporting the victim. “It is shameful that a handful of hooligans are harassing our sisters in broad daylight and police is doing nothing. Instead of beating up BJP workers, they should have arrested the goons. The BJP will not tolerate this. We will gherao the state police headquarters in case police fail to take prompt action in this case,” said Yadav.

Senior police officials reached Olidih police station and assured the BJP workers to arrest the culprit, identified as Sajid and his aides, within next 24 hours. The BJP leaders once again submitted a written complaint against the accused. Members of Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal also reached Kalikanagar and Olidih police station. Police said raids were on to nab Sajid and his associates. The BJP workers ended the agitation on getting assurance from police.
