812 Vintage in New Albany celebrating 3rd anniversary
Ryan Shean may be young, but he loves to sell “old” stuff at his business in downtown New Albany.The 23-year-old entrepreneur owns 812 Vintage on Pearl Street. The vintage clothing store is celebrating three years in business by giving back to its customers.Shean said the clothes he sells bring on a wave of nostalgia that sparks conversations.”For the, you know, older generations, it’s a throwback to their past,” said Shean. “Brings back memories from, you know, their childhoods or times that they, you know, really remembered in their life.”From Air Jordans to MTV jackets and more, Shean said the items at his store are unique and some are local.”All these things are, they’re new again to me. I had them before,” LuAnn Turnage told WLKY on Tuesday while walking past the storefront. “And then you see something that makes you remember a time when you were younger, when you had fun in high school, when you did things down in New Albany.”According to Shean, customer loyalty is the reason he has been able to stay open for three years.”The first year was a little scary, of course, but time’s flown by since. And it’s been a very enjoyable time,” Shean said. “You had a lot of ups and downs, but other than I can’t complain. This is, what else would I want to be doing?”The shop opened during the COVID-19 pandemic in July 2020. After that, Shean dealt with the Main Street construction mess and inflation, which has many people spending less money.Despite the ongoing struggles, Shein said he’s pushing through to stay open for his customers.”I’m here for the long run. I’m not here for three years. I’m hoping to be here for another 20-30 if I can,” said Shean.The store is offering 20% discounts on everything all week to celebrate its third anniversary. Existing customers will get 25% off. The deals run through Sunday.Keep an eye on social media.
